Some people wonder what Doxa actually means. Well in Greek, Doxa means greatness. It is the feeling of achieving something as best as you can and knowing the relief and joy once you have completed a project, task or goal in your life. This is the effect Doxa has on me, but what about others?
Lately we have been asking what greatness means to our supporters and how Doxa helps them experience and achieve that greatness. Terry, a UPP participant, said that “personal greatness is something we must find within ourselves. To achieve personal greatness, we become the best we can ever become”.
Through our discussions we discovered that setting greatness goals was also an important part of the journey. However it can sometimes be difficult to identify when we have in fact completed them. Second year Doxa Cadet Ewe Jin explained how he measures his life goals. “I know I have achieved my greatness goals when I feel fulfilled and content, without a single ‘what if’ moment.”
Throughout all their programs, Doxa strives to help every young person they work with achieve their own personal greatness. Upon reflection, Doxa Alumni Kristy shared that Doxa supported her greatness journey by “connecting me with a workplace, mentor and peers to support me to learn and become my best”.
With an understanding of what Doxa means to our supporters, I encourage you to go out there and find your own place in the world to be great and achieve your greatness goals.
